Zoom Settings: Virtual Background

Some clients require Ninjas to have a specific virtual background set up when they appear on camera. The background not only showcases the client’s brand, but also creates a professional and uniform appearance amongst all Ninjas.

If the restaurant where you are working requires a virtual background, the photo will be provided in the training course, where you can save it to your computer.

This article covers how to install/set up your virtual background.

Step 1: Make sure the photo or file has been downloaded and saved to an easily accessible folder on your computer.

Step 2: Open your Zoom app and navigate to settings by clicking the gear icon.

Step 3: Click on Background & Effects.

Step 4: Click on the arrow/plus sign on the right hand side. Select “Add image.” Then, find the photo that you saved to your computer.

Step 5: You should now be able to choose the background and preview your video. Make sure that “Mirror my video” is NOT selected (at the bottom).

“Do I need to have my own video displayed on my screen during the whole shift?"

  • As long as your camera is on and you click the Play button when a connection is established, you don’t have to view your own video. If you “minimize” the Zoom screen, you will be left with one floating video to which you can pin the customer video feed.

“Where can I find the background image? I got a new computer and don’t have it saved.”

  • The background image will be provided in the training course for each restaurant that requires one. You can navigate back to the training course, or you can message HQ in the app to request the image/file.

If you are already on shift and want to access your video settings from your Zoom meeting…

  • Make sure the photo is saved to your computer. Then, click the arrow next to the video icon, and select “Choose Virtual Background.”  You can then select the saved photo from your computer- Just make sure your video is turned on.

If your virtual background is not displaying properly…

  • A green screen may help you. Some computers have trouble displaying a virtual background without a green screen (this usually depends on the graphics card).  If you’re experiencing trouble, feel free to purchase one like this: Amazon- Green Screen
